Cyprus weather varies from month to month. You will find oppressive heat and humidity in July and August. But there are surprisingly cold nights in February. Yet by March, some days have glorious warmth and wildflowers spring up everywhere. Most months have festivals or public holidays. Winter
January in Cyprus – New Year sees fireworks and Vasilopitta. This is a special cake to celebrate St Basil’s Day. The feast of Epiphany celebrates the coming of the wise men (magi) to visit the infant Jesus.
February in Cyprus – It’s usually cold at nights in these winter months. However, almond blossom appears on the trees. We usually celebrate Green Monday, the first day of Lent, in February.
Spring
March in Cyprus – Wildflowers abound, mostly yellow. The Lenten season is underway in March, and we celebrate Greek National Day.
April in Cyprus – Cyprus National Day starts this month, and the Lenten season continues. Easter is often in April.
May in Cyprus – Greek Easter is sometimes in May. It’s a good time to visit Cyprus, as warmer weather is almost certain. However, it is not yet humid.
Summer
June in Cyprus – The Kataklysmos holiday combines Pentecost with the flood, and usually occurs inJune. The weather starts to get hotter during this month, but is still fairly dry.
July in Cyprus – This month is full of heat and humidity. School is out and almost everyone heads to the beach.
August in Cyprus – There are visitors everywhere during August. But businesses close, other than restaurants and hotels. There’s a two-week holiday and many of the locals head to the mountains to avoid the humidity.
September in Cyprus – Early in the month, it’s back to school for students. Cyprus is still hot in September, but there’s less humidity. Occasionally it even rains.
Autumn
October in Cyprus – By early October, almost everyone has stopped using their air conditioning. There are a couple of public holidays with parades and (sometimes) the town bands.
November in Cyprus – In November, we start thinking about needing our central heating. The weather is perfect for brisk walks, and there’s usually a fair amount of rain.
December in Cyprus – While we might think of this as a Winter month, the weather is usually reasonably mild. Christmas decorations appear in shops and houses, and the mood is festive.
